Welcome message

International Academy of Legal Medicine

In my role as President of the International Academy of Legal Medicine and on behalf of its Presidium, I am delighted to officially introduce the Scientific Programme of the 2016 IALM Symposium in Venice.
The Academy has a longstanding and venerable history in organizing Symposia dedicated to single issues of particular interest to the Bio-Medicolegal Sciences, commencing in 1980, until the most recent Symposium organized in Fribourg in 2012, dedicated to the subject of Interpersonal Violence in Social Proximity. A number of prestigious International Scientific Partners have already confirmed their active participation and patronage, such as the New Mediterranean Academy of Forensic Sciences (nMAFS), the Association for European Cardiovascular Pathology (AECVP), the European Workplace Drug Testing Society (EWDTS), the International Criminal Court (ICC), the International Organization for Forensic Odonto-Stomatology (IOFOS), the Society of Hair Testing (SoHT) and the World Association for Medical Law (WAML), and we look forward to being able to welcome additional Societies and Associations to this distinguished Event, which will take place in Venice, one of the World’s most beautiful cities.
The distinctive character and ethos of the Venice Symposium, diversely from the traditional structure of the previous IALM Symposia, resides in its commitment to the guiding principle of “Innovation - Unitariness - Evidence”, specifically attuned to the present and future evolution of the Bio-Medicolegal Sciences, and aimed at fostering a channel for the exchange of information in the form of invited lectures and round-table discussions. Indeed, the transformation inherent to the Post-Genomic revolution and the recent surge of Personalized Medicine poses a momentous epochal challenge to the Bio-Medicolegal Discipline, which should re-establish itself on molecular evidence in the promotion of a Personalized Justice.
Alongside the aforementioned, ample space will be given to the perennial and ever present issues and topics of the Bio-Medicolegal and Forensic Sciences, in the form of Parallel Sessions and Oral Presentations Sessions, thereby encouraging active discussions and eliciting valuable insights, while at the same time offering profitable up-to-date Educational contents and opportunities.
